World Toilet Day: LASG and Harpic Holds Campaign Against Open Defecation

241

World Toilet Day is about inspiring and helping to cultivate the habit of the global sanitation crisis. Established by the World Toilet Organization in 2001, World Toilet Day was made an official United Nations Observance in 2013. The Lagos State Government, an administration led by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu in conjunction with Harpic, focuses on the drive to accelerate change as the 2023 UN-Water Theme. WTD is an official United Nations international observance day on 19 November to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

However, expressing concern for hygiene is a core attribute to sustaining a serene environment and healthy lifestyle, yet it’s faced with open defecation challenges.

Earlier today, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, in conjunction with Harpic, a hygienic company based in Nigeria, held an awareness campaign rally to sensitize Lagosians on the ideal style of healthy living amidst the challenging open defecation problem caused by the lack of adequate public toilets facilities and the sanitation systems that support them are underfunded, poorly managed or neglected with devastating consequences for health, economics and the environment particularly in the poorest and most marginalized communities.
