Worker’s Day: Atiku, Peter Obi Extend Messages of Solidarity and Support to Workers

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party have issued statements praising the resilience and dedication of Nigerian workers.

Their messages come against a backdrop of ongoing challenges facing workers in Nigeria, including economic hardships and government policies that have been criticised as detrimental to workers’ rights and well-being.

In a statement by Atiku Abubakar,

The former Vice President, they expressed sympathy with Nigerian workers, as he noted that they have faced mounting difficulties under the current administration.

Abubakar criticised the government’s handling of issues such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the continuous increase in tariffs, which he argued have exacerbated the plight of workers.

The Nigerian worker has had it so rough under this current administration, and it is unfortunate that while the living conditions of the Nigerian worker remain at a miserably low ebb, the Nigerian government continues to regale its international audiences with tales of how the masses are being weaned of their wasteful dependence on government,” he stated.

He called on the government to prioritise workers’ concerns and address their challenges, particularly ensuring workplace safety and health in a changing climate.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, echoed similar sentiments in his statement, commending Nigerian workers for their unwavering commitment to building the nation despite adversity.

Obi highlighted workers’ crucial role in driving the economy and emphasised the need for unity, justice, and equality for all workers.

He called on Nigerians to celebrate workers’ achievements and recommit to creating a better and more prosperous Nigeria.

In the face of economic hardships, political uncertainties, and social injustices, you stand your ground, firmly believing in a brighter future for our country. I stand with you in solidarity, championing your cause and advocating for your rights, Obi stated.

Both emphasised the importance of solidarity and support for Nigerian workers, pledging to champion their cause and advocate for their rights.

Their statements come at a time when workers in Nigeria continue to face significant challenges, including rising inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
