There is no cause for alarm – Gumi

Controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Dr Ahmad Gumi has reacted to his invitation by the Federal Government on his comments on banditry.  In a post on his X page, he stated that he had engaged in a constructive dialogue with security officials.

Addressing the issue Gumi emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in combating the menace of banditry.  He pointed out that he was responding to the flurry of inquiries and speculations, noting the need for collective efforts towards achieving lasting peace in the nation.

“There is no cause for alarm,” Gumi affirmed.

“Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying – each in his own sphere – to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation.”

Gumi emphasized the values of courtesy and respect, highlighting the necessity for a unified approach to addressing the challenges posed by banditry.

“There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect,” he stated, reflecting on the tone of the discussions.

The dialogue between Gumi and security officials comes amidst heightened tensions following the abduction of approximately 287 school children from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

While the exact number of abducted students remains disputed, Gumi had previously offered to negotiate with the bandits responsible for the abduction.

Expressing gratitude for the concern shown by well-wishers and journalists,  Gumi extended his appreciation. “I thank you for your concern,” he remarked.
