Gunmen have reportedly ambushed and killed the Chief of Chanchanji, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son Yusuf Tanimu.

The incident occurred on Friday evening as the traditional ruler and his son returned from a funeral service in Takum.

The governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, in a statement by his special adviser on media and digital communication, described the killing of the monarch as tragic.

Kefas, calling for calm among Takum residents, stated that he has directed security agents to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and to pursue the perpetrators, ensuring they are brought to justice.

This marks the third killing of a traditional ruler by suspected bandits this year, following the deaths of the chiefs of Sansani and Usmanu.

Despite the Taraba state government and the Nigerian Army constantly saying they are battle-ready to flush out the bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements disturbing the peace of communities, this seems not to be the case as insecurity continues to thrive, claiming the lives of the people.
