Star Garments Group, a global leader in sustainable apparel manufacturing, recently announced it is investing $15 million in a new plant in Togo.

The plant will be located within the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA) area and will create around 4,520 direct and indirect jobs by 2030.

This is the first time Star Garments Group is setting up a facility outside Sri Lanka. The project is in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and aims to strengthen Togo’s textile and garment sector. It is also geared towards providing employment opportunities for women.

“We are continually looking to diversify our manufacturing base. Our upcoming facility in Togo will serve as a competitive alternative for our valued customers,” said Star Garments Group Managing Director A. Sukumaran.

He continued, “This expansion aligns with our strategic vision to drive global growth and introduce world-class apparel manufacturing to West Africa.”

Star Garments Group has been in the apparel industry for over 40 years. It operates eight LEED-certified factories, and the new factory in Togo will also meet the standards of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Star Garments Group is recognised globally for its commitment to environmental responsibility.

IFC’s Regional Manager for Togo, Josiane Kwenda, said that IFC was proud to partner with Star Garments Group to support the creation of jobs, exports, and industrial development in Togo. She averred that West Africa has the potential to become a textile hub due to its abundant labour force and local cotton production.

The Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA) is an industrial zone that covers more than 455 hectares of land. It focuses on creating value chains from raw materials to finished products. The PIA is located near a highway connecting the airport and the autonomous port.
