A Nigerian, identified as Richard Onyekachi Idi, was arraigned in a magistrate court after being arrested by Sierra Leonean authorities following the discovery of 38 pallets of cocaine at Freetown International Airport.

He is facing multiple court charges, including possession, dealing, and transporting prohibited drugs.

Idi appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where Detective Sergeant Prince Jabati from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) testified against the defendant.

Various documents, including ticket details, were presented as evidence against Idi by Jabati.

During cross-examination, defence lawyer J. T. Mansaray requested bail, citing Idi’s need for urgent medical attention. Mansaray also questioned Jabati’s five years experience as an investigator, to which the detective sergeant replied that he did not conduct further investigations beyond the initial inquiry file.

After hearing both parties, the magistrate ordered a medical examination for Idi at the correctional centre and adjourned the case to Thursday, September 26.
