Senate Approves FCCPC Executive Vice-Chair’s Sack

The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove Babatunde Irukera, the Executive Vice-Chair of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The decision came after Tinubu’s letter was presented during plenary today by Senate President GodsWill Akpabio. Tinubu cited inefficiency as the primary reason for Irukera’s dismissal.

The FCCPC Act stipulates that the President must seek the National Assembly’s approval to terminate the Executive Vice-Chairman’s position within the Commission.

However, despite this requirement, Tinubu had already taken action in January, sacking both Irukera and Alexander Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises.

The request was subjected to a vote following deliberations among the Senate members, with the majority favouring approval.

Recall Irukera, after the dismissal, took to his X page to appreciate the time spent as the Vice-chair of FCCPC.
