The House of Representatives has passed a resolution advocating for a waiver for military personnel at all airports, exempting them from the payment of tollgate fees.

This decision followed Abdulsamad Dasuki’s (APC-Sokoto) adoption of a motion of urgent public importance during the House session in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dasuki highlighted the Minister of Aviation’s announcement regarding the cancellation of all exemptions on airport tollgate fees for VIPs, emphasising the need to honour the dedication of the armed forces who serve the nation diligently, often at great personal risk.

“Members of the Armed Forces are subjected to paying for access to our airports where they are also expected to protect citizens and foreigners alike whether or not they are on duty,” Dasuki stated.

The House directed the Minister of Aviation to ensure that relevant authorities exempt the armed forces from tollgate fees and parking payments at airports nationwide. Additionally, the House mandated its Committee on Aviation to oversee compliance with this directive.

This resolution reportedly aims to recognise and appreciate the service rendered by military personnel.
