A petrol tanker exploded along Shehu Shagari Way in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday night, leaving many injured. According to FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the accident occurred around 7:50 pm, when a tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) crashed into a Toyota Sienna bus.

The explosion affected several passengers in the commercial Sienna bus, according to reports. Eyewitnesses reported that commuters abandoned their vehicles and ran to safety, resulting in a traffic gridlock that extended to roads leading to the Nicon Hilton Hotel, Chicken House, MTN, and Farmers Market.

Emergency responders transported the injured to Maitama District Hospital for treatment, according to a health official. A passerby stated that the tanker driver fled after the truck overturned. A hospital official, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed they were treating victims from the explosion.

Although no lives were lost, three individuals – Idris Mohammed, Suleiman Gimba, and Adamu Isiayku – sustained injuries and were immediately taken to Maitama District Hospital for medical attention, SP Adeh stated.
