Peter Obi Join Nigerians to Hold Tinubu-led Administration Accountable

Nigeria’s leading opposition leader, Peter Obi, has announced his commitment to join Nigerians in holding public servants entrusted with public funds accountable.

The call to join Nigerians in holding the Tinubu-led administration was made known on his official X (formerly Twitter) post in the late hours of Wednesday, emphasizing the need to consistently hold the ruling elite entrusted with public money accountable.

While he points out that the currently suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Ms. Betta Edu, is a welcome development, he also emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation strong enough to not only bring the alleged to book but also everyone culpable as investigations go on.

West Africa Weekly earlier reported on the alleged fraudulent diversion of public funds by the Minister, yet H.E Peter Obi expressed that, “By a sad coincidence, the alleged fraudulent diversion of N585 million of public money by Ms. Edu broke almost at the same moment that the Minister who held the same portfolio in the last administration is being investigated for a whooping N35bn misappropriation.

Without mince words, he criticized the current system of government as may have created the Ministry as a conduit pipe to siphon public funds while using the poor as a face.

In a related subsequent post, Peter Obi gave a backlash on the recent directives on the 60 percent cut down on government official trips, stating, “It is not enough to announce arbitrary cuts in the size of federal official entourages. The nation needs to be informed of how much the measure will save and where such savings will be applied.”
