NYSC Debunks Recent Allowance Increment Reports

The National Youth Service Corps management has debunked recent news that President Tinubu had approved a new allowance package for corps members.

According to earlier reports, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, visited the Ogun State camp in Sagamu for an interactive session with Corps members over many issues.

He explained that corps members would benefit from the new minimum wage. However, according to a statement by NYSC, President Tinubu has not sanctioned an increment yet, as speculated.

According to the statement, the visit was part of the oversight functions of the DG during orientation periods to brief the corps members on a range of issues involving patriotism, entrepreneurship, security consciousness, and community development, all of which are relevant in preparing the youth for leadership roles in the future.

The NYSC management, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, expressed dismay at the earlier reports.

“In view of this, members of the press are advised to be factual in their reportage of NYSC activities in order not to incite unnecessary apprehension among the stakeholders of the Scheme,” the statement noted.

This statement came after the Corps members had started celebrating what many thought to be a close, imminent financial boost.

For now, Corps members will patiently wait for official announcements on changes regarding allowance packages.
