In a bid to tackle the recent insecurity crisis in Ekiti State, military personnel have been deployed to the state as directed by the Chief of Army Staff. This set of military troops arrived at the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, February 8.

Speaking to journalists, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Security, Brig-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd), said that the security the state now has on ground “can take up the whole threats in the state.”

Brig-Gen Ogundana assured residents that the state would return to normalcy after the military operation.

“Just give us some time,” he said. “All those areas that constitute threats, that is not allowing our people to go to farm again, I can assure you that by the time these people are finishing their operation, all our forests will be safe. People can now go back to business as usual.”

Furthermore, the Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Brig-Gen. John Larr, told the press that there will be no hiding place for “bandits and criminals.”

He said, “We will know no boundary because we will cross to adjoining states and pursue them.

“There will be no hiding place, and there will be no night, and there will be no day… We will do our work and clear the bushes.”

The Brigadier-General added that the operation will start immediately, even though they had just arrived.

Recall that on January 30, the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, had shed tears during a plenary session while moving a motion on the killing of two monarchs in Ekiti State. Following the Ekiti Senator’s motion, the House of Representatives implored the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy military forces to the state.
