The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly exhuming and beheading a corpse for ritual purposes in the Car Wash area of Ogun State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said that the suspect, Lekan Akinyemi, was arrested on Monday after a resident reported suspicious activities around his father’s grave.

Odutola explained that Nojeem Balogun, living near Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, reported that on June 23, 2024, at about 8:00 am, one of his siblings noticed unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta. Upon inspection, he found the head had been removed, PUNCH reported.

Odutola said further investigation identified Lekan Akinyemi as the person responsible for digging up the grave and severing the head.

She stated that after receiving the report, officers from the Adatan Division quickly arrested Akinyemi.

“Lekan Akinyemi was caught in the act, and the case will be handed over to the Anti-Robbery unit for investigation before being transferred to the state CID,” adding that the suspect would be prosecuted once the investigation is complete.
