Lagos State Government, through its Commissioners for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, and Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, maintained its stance on Sunday over the multitude of residents in Lagos to their home states.

The Lagos State Government said the multitude of “miscreants” in the State informed the recent demolition of properties built under the Dolphin Bridge, Ikoyi, Lagos.

This disclosure was made public by the Commissioner of Information, Omotosho, on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “The Statewide exercise to free Lagos of visible security risks has continued after the arrest of some suspects under Dolphin Bridge.”

The ceaseless influx of miscreants, beggars, and the destitute onto Lagos streets has raised fears of insecurity of lives and property. This is unacceptable, Omotosho’s post reads.

He further wrote,

As part of the exercise, 450 miscreants were at the weekend rescued. Of the lot, 371 pleaded for assistance to relocate to their various states due to the hardship they are facing in Lagos.

Seventy-nine have been absorbed into some government facilities for rehabilitation after showing signs of being unwell.

Omotosho has since affirmed that the exercise will continue “as part of the government’s responsibility” to keep our citizens safe and secure.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Wahab, stated in a follow-up press release that the Lagos State Government will undertake enforcement action to remove over 100 shanties at Adeniji Adele underbridge, starting Monday, 6th of May, 2024.
