JCI Nigeria Concludes Southern Conference in Uyo

The Junior Chamber International Nigeria wrapped up its Southern Conference held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from April 18th to April 21st, 2024, themed “IsongEnwongo”.

The event attracted over 300 participants from various parts of the country, including collegiate and city local organisations from the Southeast, Southsouth, and Southwest regions. Notable attendees include the 2024 JCI Nigeria President, Sandra Ekene Efemuaye, and JCI Vice President, Rosemary Mothusi from Botswana.

For many first-time attendees like Scholastica Okodugha, 22,  from JCI Nigeria UNIBEN, the conference was a memorable experience. She said, “Although this is my first conference, it felt like I had attended conferences like this all my life. I had so much fun! I loved the ambience of the city, her people, her cuisine, everything. This is me pledging to attend many more conferences in my lifetime”.

The conference featured various training sessions and masterclasses conducted by industry experts on topics such as Speak like a Boss, Future of Work, and Emotional Intelligence, amongst others.

Nkenchor Patience, 2024 JCI RISE Director Southsouth/Southeast, remarked, “I had looked forward to programs and events that would cut across RISE’s three focal points, which are mental health, workforce empowerment, and business recovery, and it did happen. There was a medical team and training on workforce empowerment and business recovery. Another excitement was the local delicacy from Uyo, who were the hosts.”

JCI Vice President, Rosemary Mothusi commended Nigeria for her energy, commitment, and dedication to driving change in the country. She said, “The energy from Nigeria and Nigerians is something else. I love it here. The drive to see change in their country is on another level. They should keep up with this energy and resilience”.

The conference hosts, 2024 JCI Executive Vice Presidents Southsouth/Southeast and Southwest, JCIN Amb. Elochukwu Umeohana and JCIN Amb. Segun Omotosho, respectively, worked together to ensure a remarkable conference experience. 

Expressing his satisfaction, Umeohana said, “There is this fulfilment you get when you get the job done. I am both elated and relieved that I could deliver as promised. As someone who hates surprises and plans to the last detail, I am grateful our efforts were not wasted.” He iterated on the planning and effort put into this work and is grateful for a partner like Omotosho.

Omotosho echoed his sentiment, praising their beautiful collaboration. “Working with EVP Elochukwu was seamless in ensuring the successful delivery of this conference.”

The conference concluded with a banquet and award night. The following events on JCI Nigeria’s calendar include the Collegiate Conference in Kwara State, the Northern Conference in Kano State and the National Convention in Ogun state. JCI is a global organisation dedicated to nurturing young leaders, with over 100 local organisations in Nigeria alone.
