Iwájú” Debuts in Lagos Ahead of Disney+ Launch

199

We created ‘Iwájú’ as a love letter to Lagos, Nigeria, and an ode to the rich legacy of African storytelling. We’re proud to share this series and hope that it inspires more Africans across the world to share their stories and shape our collective narrative – Director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola

The highly anticipated series “Iwájú,” a collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pan-African Entertainment Company Kugali, premiered at the Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria. The event, attended by industry guests and celebrities, showcased the unique storytelling and visual elements of the futuristic Lagos-based series.

Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola and featuring a talented voice cast, including Ireti Doyle, Chioma ‘Chigul’ Omeruah, and Kehinde Bankole, “Iwájú” followed the adventures of Tola and her best friend Kole as they uncovered secrets in their diverse worlds.

With distribution secured on the Disney Channel across Africa, viewers can enjoy “Iwájú” on the DStv platform, making it accessible to audiences where Disney+ is not available. The series also boasts an authentic African-influenced soundtrack by composer Ré Olunuga.

In addition to the series launch, a new game, “Disney Iwájú: Rising Chef,” developed by Maliyo Games in collaboration with Disney and Kugali, will debut on Feb. 28 for iOS and Android, coinciding with the Disney+ release. The game offers players an immersive culinary experience celebrating Nigerian culture and cuisine.
