INEC Denies Staff Caught with Pre-filled Result Sheet in Enugu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied a video circulating on social media depicting one of its Presiding officers, Ronald Ugwudani, who was beaten by voters for alleged possession of a pre-filled result sheet in the Enugu re-run election.

INEC was tasked by the Court of Appeal to conduct the re-run election for Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency in Enugu State on Saturday, 3rd January 2024.

This is due to the cancellation of the election in some polling units over the non-inclusion of the logo of the All Progressives Congress in Form EC8A.

However, eyewitness reveals that in the pre-filled result, the electoral body allocated 443 votes to the Peoples Democratic Party candidate (PDP), 31 votes to All Progressives Congress (APC), and 15 votes to Labour Party candidates for the Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.

Meanwhile, the constituency voters had been informed of electoral misconduct going on in Enugu. On such notice, voters of Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency demanded the result sheet.

Ugwundani now told the voters that his SPO was coming with it. Out of no trust in the electoral body, the voters pounced on him, and he brought out the result sheets from his bag.

“I told them that the SPO would bring it, so, they forced me to search my bag, I didn’t know that the result sheet was inside my bag. I showed them the result sheet, and they wanted to kill me,” the INEC Staff was overheard narrating in a video.

INEC, in its response to the allegation, has so far denied its employment of the accused, informing the public to disregard such report as fake news without lifting the burden of proof.
