IELTS Exam Fees Surge by 29% in Nigeria

410

The British Council in Nigeria has announced a 29% increase in fees for the IELTS examinations, with Nigerians set to pay N139,000 for the Computer Academic and General Training Modules starting February 1, 2024. This comes five months after a previous hike from N80,000 to N107,500 in September.

The Council has attributed the increment to rising delivery costs in Nigeria, as stated on their website. IELTS is crucial for those seeking opportunities abroad and serves as proof of English proficiency. The latest price surge, amid the country’s ‘japa’ trend, adds to the growing expenses associated with international pursuits, influenced by the devaluation of the Nigerian currency.

The new fees impact various modules, including UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and Life Skills, affecting those pursuing goals in the UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.
