Ibadan Explosion: NSE, Geologists to submit structural integrity test report

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mining and Geologists experts who have been looking into the recent Bodija, Ibadan Explosion on January 16 will submit their reports to the Oyo State government on Tuesday.

NSE experts have been carrying out structural integrity tests on about 230 properties around the site of the explosion including 13 houses within a 50-metre radius of the blast site, 40 houses at a 100-metre radius, 122 houses at a 200-metre radius, and 53 houses within a 250-metre radius.

A team of geologists from the University of Ibadan (UI) will give analytical reports on seismic measurements from the epicentre at Dejo Oyelese Street.

The incident manager, Professor Temitope Alonge, who disclosed this to the Nigerian Tribune, stated that the state government will upon receiving the reports make informed decision on the incident.

Going further, he said: “The state has continued to receive donations of items for victims aside from the financial donations being received by the Bodija Estate Residents Association.”

Earlier, the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, submitted a report to the President, a report of which its content can only be deduced by the title as presented in Abuja.

In the meantime, the Oyo State government and its law enforcement agencies are yet to issue a substantive report beyond the preliminary investigation which identified the cause of the blast as dynamite stored in residential areas by alleged illegal miners led by one Sawane Youssouf.

Alleged suspect, Sawane Youssouf (Mali)

Sawane Youssouf however, has denied having anything to do with the blast that has so far killed 5 and left over 77 residents injured.
