Guinea’s Foreign Minister, Dr Morissanda Kouyaté, has announced that all elections in Guinea will take place in 2025.

He made this statement in Paris during the Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie (CMF).

This came in the wake of doubts if the junta government of Guinea would keep to its 2022 agreement to hold general elections in the country.

After Colonel Mamady Doumbouya led the overthrow of President Alpha Conde in September 2021, the junta initially suggested a three-year transition period from 2022, but was rejected by regional mediators.

Guinea’s two-year transition period therefore began in January 2023, with the general elections to civilian rule expected to hold early 2025.
