Fee Hike: Two Unibadan Students Arrested, Following Directives of Campus Closure

Two students of the University of Ibadan, Aduwo Ayodele from the Department of History and Olawale from the Department of Communications and Language Arts were arrested on campus today by the university’s security unit, UCJUI reported.

Reports suggest that the students have been taken to the Criminal Department at Iyanganku Police Station.

The arrest follows a directive issued by the university management on Saturday, August 31, mandating all students to vacate the campus.

This directive came after a series of protests by students against the newly introduced fee regime for the current academic session.

However, the Chief Security Officer of the University of Ibadan, Victor Fadebiyi, told the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), that the university’s security team did not arrest the students but were instead invited by the police. Fadebiyi emphasised that the school security outfit had no involvement in the students’ arrest.
