Davido Reflects on Afrobeats’ Global Rise and Grammy Nominations

In a recent France 24 interview, Afrobeats sensation Davido, also known as David Adeleke, celebrated the global success of Afrobeats and its increased visibility. Recognizing the genre’s potential, Davido emphasized the positive shift, noting that Afrobeats is now heard in cities worldwide.

Proud of the elevation of African culture, he highlighted the longstanding appeal of African destinations during festive seasons. Davido expressed gratitude for the newfound opportunities on international platforms, such as radios in New York, Paris, and London, bringing Afrobeats to a global audience. Beyond music, he emphasized the broader impact on African culture, including food and fashion.

Davido’s album ‘Timeless’ earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Album category, with tracks ‘Feel’ and ‘Unavailable’ also nominated. Having recently headlined the O2 Arena, Davido is set to headline the Accor Arena before heading to the 66th Grammy Awards, symbolizing Afrobeats’ journey from local beats to international acclaim.
