“The Weekend,” directed by Daniel Oriahi, is set to hit cinemas nationwide this Friday, August 30th, following its selection for the prestigious 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. The film’s official trailer was recently released, generating significant buzz ahead of its debut.

The Weekend” marks Oriahi’s return to the big screen six years after his last major success, “Sylvia,” a supernatural thriller that captivated audiences. The new film stars a talented ensemble cast, including Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, and James Gardiner.

The movie centres around Nikiya, a young woman orphaned early in life who has finally found the family she constantly desired through her fiancé, Luke. Eager to complete her dream of a perfect life, she yearns to meet Luke’s family. However, Luke’s reluctance to revisit his past – having not returned home in over a decade – creates tension. Determined, Nikiya persuades him to confront his unresolved family issues, leading them to his childhood home. There, she discovers that there are family secrets she has to deal with.

This gripping narrative, combined with Oriahi’s directorial prowess, promises a compelling cinematic experience that both audiences and critics eagerly await.
