Kano Emirate Crisis: Court Adjourns Kano's Emirate Hearing To July 4

A Kano court has adjourned the Emirate legal hearing between Aminu Bayero and Lamido Sanusi to July 4 to address all applications and originating motions.

According to recent reports, the presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu, adjourned the case to July 4 to hear all pending applications.

This was after counsel to the applicants informed the court that he was served with five processes on July 1 around 7:00 pm by the first respondent, and had filed all their responses and asked for a 30-minute stand down to enable them to serve the respondent.

Counsel to Bayero opposed the 30-minute stand down and sought an adjournment to enable him time to respond to the applications.

The ongoing legal case, which started on May 27, had the attorney general and speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly asking the court to grant an order of interim injunction, restraining the 15th Emir, Bayero and four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as emirs.

Recall that this legal crisis began after the Kano lawmakers repealed the State Emirate Council Law 2019, under which former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje created the four (Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye) emirates.

Governor Abba Yusuf assented to the bill and reinstated Lamido Sanusi as the sole emir of Kano the following day.

However, Aminu Ado-Bayero challenged his removal in court and relocated to the mini palace of Kano at the Nasarawa GRA.
