Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ogulu, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing one billion streams in the United Kingdom. This achievement was commemorated with a BRIT plaque presented to him during his sold-out show at the London Stadium on June 24, 2024.

Burna Boy joins fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid as the only African artist to achieve over one billion streams in the UK. His sixth studio album, “Love, Damini,” has played a pivotal role in this success, becoming the highest-peaking African album on the UK chart in July 2022. The album, featuring hits like “Kilometre,” “Last,” and “For My Hand” (featuring Ed Sheeran), has cemented Burna Boy’s status as a global music powerhouse.

In addition to his streaming milestone, Burna Boy made history by becoming the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity London Stadium twice. This achievement highlights his immense popularity and the growing influence of African music worldwide.

Reflecting on his success, Burna Boy’s journey from his breakout hit “YE” in 2018 to his Grammy-winning album “African Giant” and beyond showcases his unwavering dedication to his craft and ability to connect with audiences globally.

These accomplishments not only affirm Burna Boy’s exceptional talent but also signal the rising prominence of African artists on the international stage. With his trailblazing achievements, Burna Boy continues to pave the way for future generations of African musicians.
