Breaking: Lexi Thompson to Retire from Professional Golf Before Turning 30

Lexi Thompson, an eleven-time LPGA Tour winner, has announced her retirement from professional golf at the end of the 2024 season.

The 29-year-old golfer, who turned professional at 15 and made history as the youngest woman to win an LPGA tournament at 16, will conclude her illustrious career next year.

Thompson’s decision comes amid a challenging season in which she has missed the cut in three consecutive tournaments and four out of six overall.

Despite these struggles, she secured a third-place finish at the Ford Championship and a tie for 16th at the LPGA Drive On Championship earlier this season.

Thompson’s last LPGA victory was in 2019, and while she achieved two victories on the Ladies European Tour since then, her most recent win was in 2022.

Her performance at major tournaments has also declined, with missed cuts in five of her last six appearances, a stark contrast to her earlier record of four top-10 finishes in the previous six majors.

As a golf prodigy from a young age, Thompson made headlines in 2007 by becoming the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Open at just 12 years old.

She continued to break records by winning the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship (now known as the Chevron Championship) at 19, making her the second-youngest woman to win a major.

In a notable achievement in 2023, Thompson became the seventh woman to compete in a men’s PGA Tour event, participating in the Shriners Children’s Open, where she narrowly missed the cut by two strokes.
