The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the appointment of three second-class Emirs over the newly created emirates in Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared a 24-hour curfew across the state. In a news briefing at the Government House, Governor Yusuf explained the need to prevent further looting, vandalism, and violence.

The intense protests against economic hardship and governance issues took a violent turn in Kano as protesters breached security and stormed the Government House, The Cable reported.

The security forces responded by spraying water cannons and tear gas to disperse the mob to prevent further escalation into arson.

Despite these efforts, the situation remained tense as protesters clashed with the police.

Recall it was earlier reported that protesters had looted a newly built Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano, thus raising the tension within the city.

After due consideration, we have agreed that a 24-hour curfew be imposed to prevent looting and vandalisation of businesses further as well as the killing of innocent citizens, Yusuf said.

He ordered all security agencies in the state to fully comply with the curfew so that peace and order would be restored.

Governor Yusuf condoled over the violent acts, saying the protest, which was otherwise meant to be peaceful, had been hijacked by thugs and hoodlums.

He also highlighted measures taken to address their grievances, including a town hall meeting with various stakeholders and receipt of a written list of demands from protest representatives, which he assured to deliver to President Bola Tinubu.

The decision to impose the curfew was made after an emergency meeting by the State Security Council, where it was agreed that such a measure was timely in blocking further demolition and loss of life.
