This afternoon, the national power grid suffered yet another collapse, throwing the entire country into darkness. The collapse was reported around 3 pm, as confirmed by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

According to the statement released by Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications for EEDC, the company confirmed that all its interface stations with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are currently out of supply, leaving customers across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States without electricity.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network, the statement read.

Due to the collapse, EEDC has been unable to provide services to its customers in the affected states. Ezeh added,

We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and supply restoration from the National Control Centre, Osogbo.

This is the fourth time the grid has collapsed in 2024, plunging the country into total darkness.  The last time the country experienced an electricity grid collapse was on the 14th of April.
