Missing Kenyan Anti-Finance Bill Protesters Found After Police Chief Honours Court Summons

3 Kenyans who were abducted in August for partaking in the anti-finance Bill protests have been found as the police chief, Gilbert Masengeli, honoured court summons at the 7th time of asking in relation to their disappearances.

Law Society of Kenya president, Faith Odhiambo revealed on Friday that Bob Njagi, and brothers Aslam and Jamil Longton were found in Kiambu county, north of Nairobi. Posting on X she said:

I am informed that Jamil Longton and his brother Aslam were dumped at Gachie border of Kiambu and Nairobi by their captors.”

In a subsequent post, she revealed the whereabouts of Njagi, stating,

At around 1 am Bob Njagi managed to find his way to Tigoni police station and for assistance. He is alive and well.

Attached to the posts were images showing the brothers in an apparent state of distress following their release after having gone missing on August 19.

A court had earlier summoned police chief Masengeli, who had failed to honour the seven summons before being hit with a remand order for contempt of court.

The court suspended the order for seven days, giving Masengeli another chance to appear before the court, which he did at the last minute just before the court closed, thus avoiding a 6-month custodial sentence.

With the contempt of court charges dropped, the Law Society of Kenya’s substantive case looking into the disappearance of protesters is now expected to proceed.
