Sources within the presidency claimed that Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, was sacked by the president before he announced his resignation to the public citing family health issues.

Sources within the presidency claimed that Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, was sacked by the president before he announced his resignation to the public, citing family health issues.

Ngelale, in his statement, noted that his indefinite leave of absence was due to a worsening “medical situation” in his family.

However, insiders familiar with the presidency told FIJ that the real reason behind his abrupt departure was a loss in a prolonged power struggle with Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Ngelale reportedly clashed with Onanuga over their overlapping roles. While both held similar titles, the civil service structure in the presidential villa reported to Ngelale, creating confusion and tension.

Despite repeated attempts by top appointees to mediate, sources say Ngelale refused to reconcile with Onanuga.

A presidential source claimed that Ngelale’s position suffered from his decreasing relationship with reporters and civil officials. His insistence on approving Onanuga’s comments further worsened their relationship and enabled Ngelale to be sacked.

Despite Ngelale’s public statement that his departure was motivated by family health concerns, sources indicated that he pleaded for the opportunity to resign instead of facing public humiliation over his dismissal.
