Nigerian Prison Official Refuses To Assist Physically-Struggling Binance Executive In Court

107

A Nigerian prison official has refused to assist the detained Binance executive who pleaded for help to walk out of the court on Monday; a video has shown.

The video, released on X, showed the Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, pleading with the prison officer to assist him in walking, which the prison officer refused,

“He was told not to help me,” Gambaryan said, holding on to a crutch. “It is an instruction from the government… Why can’t I use a wheelchair? This is a show.”

Despite complaining about his spine and inability to walk, the prison officer told Gambaryan to manage himself.

When Gambaryan tried to hold the officer’s hand as support, the prison official took his hand off and warned him not to hold him.

“You can walk. Manage yourself. Just manage yourself,” the prison officer repeated.

Last month, Gambaryan’s spokesperson, Monique Thompson, said the United States citizen was diagnosed with a spinal disc herniation disease that required “highly specialised and risky surgery.” During his trial, Gambaryan collapsed in the Federal High Court Abuja in May.

The Binance executive, charged with money laundering, was detained in February. He was arrested together with British-Kenyan regional manager for Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla. However, the latter escaped from detention and fled the country.
