As Police Kill Protesters, Military calls for media blackout on #EndBadGovernance protests

The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has pleaded with the media to stop covering the #EndBadGovernance protests in which Nigerians are agitating over economic hardships worsening under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

During a press briefing on Friday, Musa urged both local and international media not to give attention to the protesters.

For the media, I want to appeal—I noticed yesterday all the stations are hooked up to the occasion. This is not an election. Don’t give them that coverage, the CDS said.

This call is coming amidst the killing of at least 13 protesters by security agencies and pro-government hoodlums, both of whom attacked peaceful protesters in different parts of the country.

The protests have also been characterised by looting and vandalism, especially in Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. The governments of Borno, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Zamfara states have imposed curfew to deter further violence.

Earlier, the military warned that it may intervene if violence continues.
