IED Explosion During Protest In Maiduguri Kills One, Injures 11 – Police

An improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Maiduguri, Borno State, has killed one person and injured 11 others, according to the police.

While providing a situation report to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal said that the blast occurred during the #EndBadGovernance protest at Deribe Junction, near Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno (FGGC) Annex, Bulumkutu area, Maiduguri.

The police commissioner said the injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was sent for an autopsy.

Lawal added that the police quickly deployed Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) personnel to secure the area around a nearby filling station.

The police commissioner said 17 deaths have been recorded in Borno State over the past 48 hours, which he said includes a case of homicide.

Lawal assured the public that “investigations are ongoing and that normalcy has been restored.”
