Ahead Of Nationwide Protests, Bayelsa Judges Embarks On Annual Two-Week Vacation

Bayelsa State Judiciary will commence its annual vacation from August 1st to September 13th, after which it will commence the legal year activities.

The Bayelsa judiciary spokesman, Julius Nyananyo, reportedly disclosed this in Yenagoa on Thursday, stating that regular court sittings will resume on September 23 after the legal year activities.

According to Nyananyo, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa, Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, approved the annual vacation in line with Order 45, Rule 4 (d) of the Bayelsa State High Court Rules 2010.

Justice Ayemieye assured the public, lawyers, and litigants of urgent matters of judges’ commitment to justice and their availability during the vacation period to attend to such urgent issues.

It will be recalled that West Africa Weekly reported that the Senate Assembly and House of Representatives also declared embarking on a seven-week recess.

These sudden vacations announced before protests have sparked controversies amongst Nigerians who planned to commence the peaceful protest starting August 1st, 2024.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that President Bola Tinubu, who feared what the protests might mean for his nearly 2-year tenure, has taken a proactive approach. He has engaged in private meetings with security agencies, traditional leaders, and state officials to ensure the safety and security of the nation during this period.
