Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has made a significant political contribution, donating $7 million to a super PAC backing Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. This marks Hastings’ largest single donation to a candidate, a source close to him confirmed on Tuesday, following a report by The Information.

The donation comes as Harris solidifies her position as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election. On Monday, she secured the majority of Democratic delegates, earning congratulations from Hastings. Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win,” he posted on social media platform X.

Netflix’s co-founder, Hastings, had earlier come out against Joe Biden after the president’s poor performance in the first debate.

Earlier this month, in the aftermath of Joe Biden’s first presidential debate performance, Hastings went public with his frustrations with the president running for re-election. “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hastings told the New York Times.

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would step aside from the 2024 race, endorsing Harris following pressure from congressional Democrats and major donors, including Hastings. This shift in the Democratic race led to a surge in fundraising for Harris, with her campaign raising $81 million just 24 hours after Biden’s exit, the highest single-day total for any candidate in the 2024 campaign.

As Harris prepares to face Republican candidate Donald Trump in November, Hastings’ substantial financial support underscores the high stakes and intense mobilisation efforts within the Democratic Party to secure a victory in the upcoming election
