Senator Ndume Declines Appointment as Senate Committee Chairman on Tourism

Senator Ali Ndume has rejected his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, citing personal disinterest and lack of expertise in the field.

The decision follows his recent removal as Senate Chief Whip by the Senate with pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ndume defended his actions during a press briefing in Maiduguri, reaffirming his stance without regret.

“I decline this offer for two reasons: I am not a tourist, so I am not interested in accepting the Chairmanship of Tourism. I am not knowledgeable about Tourism,” Ndume stated firmly.

His removal as Chief Whip came amidst criticism directed at President Bola Tinubu, which allegedly prompted the APC leadership to intervene.

Ndume, however, remained steadfast in his convictions, urging President Tinubu to address the issues he raised, particularly concerning the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.

“It is unpatriotic to stand by Mr. President with whatever he does. It is patriotic to speak the truth,” Ndume emphasised.

Ndume expressed gratitude for his positions, noting,

I didn’t contest to be the Chief Whip, I didn’t contest to be the Vice Chairman appropriation committee, I contested to be the senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Alhamdulillah, God granted me victory, and I am with God.

“I bear no grudge against anyone. After all, it is God that gave me that position, and it is God that took it,” he noted.
