Nairobi Police have shot a protester following the nationwide Anti-Finance protest led by Gen Z on Thursday night while heading home.

The now-deceased protester has been identified as 24-year-old Rex Kanyike, lying at the City Mortuary Morgue.

According to Citizen Digital, Kanyike was shot in the knee outside the Hilton Hotel along Moi Avenue around 7:00 pm (EAT) by rogue police.

Activist Boniface Mwangi also confirmed the incident in a post on X, highlighting that he met the parents of the deceased.

I’m sharing pictures of 24-year-old Rex Kanyike lying in the morgue with consent from his parents, Chrispin Odawa and Gillian Munyao, who are standing over his body at the City Mortuary, said Mwangi.

He was killed by the police this evening. They’re shocked and numb from the loss of their son, he added.

Also, Austin Arnold, a lawyer privy to the incident, told Citizen Digital that he spent more than 20 minutes trying to seek medical attention before being rushed to Bliss Medical Centre along Moi Avenue, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

I have spent the night with the family of Rex, and we have delivered the body to City Mortuary for Post-Mortem in the morning. It is a shattered family. They are clinging to hope because that’s all they can do,” Arnold said.

With the youth’s continuous demonstration on X, some anonymous hackers have allegedly infiltrated the parliament website to push for justice for Rex Kanyike.

Also, the resistance to the contentious Finance Bill continues, as well as the release of Journalist Edgar Wabwire, who Senator Gloria Orwobe sued and arrested for reposting her number on social media.
