The Federal Government has announced that Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, will be public holidays in honour of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Aishetu Ndayako.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated all Muslim Ummah within Nigeria and in the diaspora on this auspicious occasion.

He emphasised the importance of embodying the values of peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him). Tunji-Ojo encouraged the Muslim community to use this period to pray for the nation’s unity, prosperity, and stability.

Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo called on all Muslim faithful and Nigerians to support and cooperate with the president in his ongoing efforts to diversify the economy and accelerate the nation’s economic recovery.

He emphasised the collective responsibility of Nigerians to work towards handing over a prosperous country to future generations.

In his closing remarks, the Minister wished the Muslim Ummah a joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged all Nigerians to take proactive steps to ensure the nation’s prosperity.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah.
