214

The Abia State government has announced the change of the state emblem from its initial appearance and components to a newly adopted outlook.

This was announced today by Mr Nedu Ekeke, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the governor, Alex Otti.

According to Ekeke, it took six months for the Abia State executives to agree on the newly fitting outlook.

We worked deliberating on its appearance and what characters were most appropriate to form its components,” he said.

He further disclosed that the newly adopted emblem, with its adjusted components, represents the history, culture, lore, and aspirations of Abia State.

In addition, Ekeke noted that the design was executed by “well-meaning” Abians, both at home and abroad, and without any cost to the state government.

The newly adopted emblem is part of other developments in the state, including commissioning fifteen roads and other infrastructure projects to commemorate the first anniversary of the Alex Otti administration.

We will rebuild Umuahia to become a capital city – Gov Otti declared during Abia State one year anniversary.

Meanwhile, with the increasing level of development the state government has set in motion since May 29th, 2023, Abia State has been selected by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International Idea), an intergovernmental organisation with a mandate to support its good governance approach along with other states in Nigeria.
