Kano, Ebonyi Fully Comply With Nationwide Strike

188

The indefinite nationwide strike called by Organised Labour saw full compliance in Kano State, North-West Nigeria, on Monday as Union leaders patrolled various locations to ensure adherence to the strike, according to AIT.live which monitored the situation.

In Kano, the premises of courts, government offices, and banks were shut down, with security personnel present at some sites.

However, private commercial businesses continued to operate, while government-owned educational institutions remained closed.

Traffic flowed freely in parts of the city for those engaged in private activities unaffected by the strike.

Meanwhile, in Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, activities came to a halt in commercial banks, schools, hospitals, and the State High Court in Abakaliki, the state capital.

AIT.live observed the situation around 8 o’clock in the morning, noting that bank entrances were locked, with customers waiting outside.

The State High Court complex in Abakaliki also experienced a shutdown, with similar scenes as in the banks.

Reports indicated that workers at the new State Secretariat at Ochudo Estate stayed away from their offices, following the Organised Labour’s directive.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC)  embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday due to the Federal Government’s failure to fulfill its promises and engage in meaningful negotiations over a new minimum wage aimed at mitigating the hardships occasioned by government’s economic policies.
