This was revealed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a signed statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Thursday.

Adejobi emphasised that these arrests reflect the police force’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians.

Providing a detailed breakdown, he disclosed that, “In the past year, the police have successfully apprehended 4,826 armed robbery suspects; 3,078 kidnapping suspects; 2,479 suspects for rape/sexual crimes; 1,243 suspects for unlawful possession of firearms; 3,523 suspects for cultism; 3,381 suspects for murder/homicide, and 13,402 suspects for other offences,” Adejobi stated.

The force’s efforts have also led to the rescue of at least 1,750 kidnap victims through multiple operations. The police recovered substantial caches of illegal items, including 2,566 firearms, 19,510 rounds of ammunition, and 1,475 vehicles/motorcycles nationwide, the police stated.

Adejobi also revealed that the NPF has prosecuted 29,152 criminal cases within the year.

Of these, 17,679 cases have been conclusively resolved, while 11,576 cases are still undergoing trial. He further mentioned that 51 cases are currently under appeal at various appellate courts, and 16,200 convictions have been secured, with the offenders serving different forms of punishment for their criminal acts.
