Another Illegal Apartment Uncovered Under Osborne Bridge in Lagos

On Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the discovery of another illegal settlement nestled beneath the Osborne Bridge in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The Commissioner disclosed this information through a post on social media platform X, accompanied by videos showcasing the clandestine living quarters hidden beneath the bridge’s infrastructure.

“Another illegal settlement was discovered under the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi,” Wahab wrote in his post.

He added, “Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) commenced immediate clearance operation.”

This revelation follows closely on the heels of a similar discovery beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where occupants reportedly paid annual rents amounting to N250,000.

Providing additional details, Wahab specified that the under-bridge settlement comprised 86 partitioned rooms, varying in size from “10×10 to 12×10”.

The cramped conditions underscored the desperate living situation of those who had resorted to such precarious accommodations.

The uncovering of this illegal settlement has once again shed light on the pervasive issue of informal housing in Lagos, painting the dire circumstances faced by many residents who are left with no choice but to settle in substandard and often hazardous environments.
