Following a comprehensive investigation into financial irregularities within the Rural Electrification Agency, President Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of the Managing Director/CEO, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, and three Executive Directors.

According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the suspension is in light of findings of fraudulent expenditure totalling over N1.2 billion over the past two years.

Ngelale emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “President Tinubu expects all appointees in his administration to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.”

In response to the suspensions, President Tinubu has ordered a more comprehensive investigation into the conduct of the implicated officials. Anti-graft agencies have already commenced efforts to recover some of the misappropriated funds.

Tinubu has appointed a new interim management team to ensure continuity and leadership within the Rural Electrification Agency.

Abba Abubakar Aliyu has been appointed as the Acting Managing Director/CEO, alongside Ayoade Gboyega, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Doris Uboh, and Olufemi Akinyelure, who will serve as Executive Directors.
