273

Amidst growing economic challenges, residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have taken matters into their own hands by looting a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

This occurrence unfolded on Sunday morning, with multiple reports indicating that the looters absconded with essential foodstuffs and various items. The looted NEMA warehouse is situated in Karimo, Phase 3, Region of Abuja.

Nigeria Police Force personnel were deployed to the area to disperse the looters and secure the NEMA warehouse.

Confirming the situation, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, acknowledged the incident and assured that the police had been deployed to control the situation.

“The situation is now under control,” she stated.

The economic hardship experienced by many Nigerians, exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira, has fueled public frustration. There have been numerous agitations and protests all over the country. The situation is expected to escalate with the Federal Government’s economic policies, leading to soaring prices of goods and increased inflation rates.
