D’Tigers forced to forfeit AfroBasket qualifiers due to funding

In what can be described as a blow to Nigeria’s basketball, D’Tigers have been compelled to forfeit the upcoming AfroBasket qualifiers due to a severe shortage of funds from the government.

Despite the spirited commitment of several athletes who represented Nigeria in the 2020 Olympics, financial constraints have thwarted their participation in this crucial tournament.

The announcement posted on X disappointed fans and players alike, who had been eagerly anticipating the team’s performance in the qualifiers. 

D’Tigers, known for their prowess on the court and ability to compete at the highest levels, are now sidelined by bureaucratic hurdles and financial woes.

The forfeiture of the AfroBasket qualifiers not only dealt a blow to Nigeria’s basketball aspirations but also raised broader questions about the prioritisation of sports funding in the country.
