NECO postpones promotion exams indefinitely

245

The National Examination Council, NECO, has indefinitely postponed the 2024 promotional exams, which were scheduled to take place in Minna, Niger State on 14 and 15 February.

The postponement came as a directive from the Committee on Basic Examination Bodies in the Federal House of Representatives.

The directive, dated 9 February 2024, indicated concerns about the “security and economic hardship” citizens currently face in the country. It said the promotion process could be conducted at zonal levels to reduce the hardship it would pose on staff nationwide.

While inviting them to a meeting, the committee ordered the examination body to immediately postpone the planned promotion exams and send proof of notice to the chairman’s office on 12 February 2024.

“The committee directs NECO to halt the planned, scheduled examinations indefinitely and urgently make an announcement postponement on print and electronic media. Evidence of compliance should be forwarded to the office of the chairman in suite 0.59 House of Representatives no later than Monday, 12 February 2024.

“You are also invited to a meeting on Monday, 19 February 2024, at 11:00 am in Room 141, House of Representatives New Building,” the directive said.

In compliance, NECO issued a Friday circular conveying the committee’s directives. Recall that citizens criticised the examination body for inviting staff members nationwide to Minna for the promotion test without any financial support amidst the insecurity and economic crisis.
