Nigeria is a very very poor country - Presidency

Some Yoruba market women in Ogun State have called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu over the soaring prices of goods and the biting hardship in the country owing to the economic policies of the President’s administration.

In a viral video shared by Somto Okonkwo and viewed by West Africa Weekly, the market women expressed their frustration to a reporter from Sugarlink Concepts in their local dialect. They were deeply disappointed with the skyrocketing prices of goods across the nation. They accused Tinubu of betraying Nigerians, particularly the Yoruba people, and even threatened physical violence against the president.

An elderly woman lamented, “He has disappointed us in Yoruba land, he is not behaving like a Yoruba man.”

Another one expressed her dismay at the current administration, highlighting the deaths resulting from hunger caused by Tinubu’s economic policies. “Countless people are being killed because of food, we don’t see food to eat, the elderly that are dying are too much,” she lamented.”

Appealing for compassion from the president, another trader pleaded, “We’re tired of Nigeria; everything is costly, everything is getting costly every day.”

“What he promised us is not what’s happening now. This is too much.”

“Things are too costly; we’re tired. A carton of Titus is N100,000; it used to cost N17,000. Kote is going to N60,000. Shawa, which we used to sell for N70, now goes for N700. Garri, that used to be N50, is now N700,” a fish seller grumbled,

A plantain seller urged Mr. Tinubu to address the hardships faced by the populace, mentioning the losses incurred by traders due to the exorbitant cost of petrol.

In response to what they would convey to the president given the opportunity, one of the traders said, “We will beat the President if we have the opportunity of seeing him, we will beat him. What he told us is not what he is doing.
