APC Blames Opposition Parties for Mass Protests in North

The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday, released a press statement accusing the opposition parties of instigating mass protests to undermine the Tinubu-led government.

To recall on Monday, residents of Minna and Kano reportedly protested the unbearable high cost of living inflated by the policies of the ruling party—APC. Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga had earlier argued that the comparative cost of living indices shows that Nigerians still enjoy the lowest cost of living in Africa.

However, during the protest that blocked major roads in Minna, one of the protesters expressed that the rising cost of food items and poor government effort to arrest the situation forced them to come out en masse to register their plight to the government.

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Felix Morka, released a statement on Tuesday accusing the opposition parties as instigators of mass protests to undermine the government over its failure to address the rising cost of living.

In part, the statement reads;

The protests in Minna and Kano on Monday were the manifestation of this devious and unpatriotic plot orchestrated and coordinated effort by the opposition parties to instigate unrest and undermine the government.

While the party recognized the rights of citizens to engage in peaceful protests, it also urged the citizens to shun the opposition parties which it termed “treacherous”.

Essentially, citizens have come out only to establish the fact that there is hardship in the country and restoration should be put in place to address the high cost of living, stemming from inflation to subsidy and foreign exchange challenges.
