Gov Oyebanji confirms kidnap of school children

222

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has confirmed the kidnap of six school children, three teachers and a school bus driver in Amure Local Government Areas of the state.

The incident occurred yesterday evening when some students of Apostolic Faith School in Amure-Ekiti were travelling back to Eporo-Ekiti, reports say.

Describing the incident as callous and unacceptable, the governor said no stone would be left unturned in the efforts to rescue the school children.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, security agencies in the state have been mandated to go after the abductors and rescue the pupils and their teachers.

He assured that security is being stepped up across the state to apprehend criminals in the state. Gov Oyebanji called on citizens to remain calm and vigilant and to also cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements to the authorities.

This is happening after the killing of two first-class traditional rulers in the state yesterday by suspected gunmen believed to be herders.
