Settle your bills to enable us to serve you better – Air Force to INEC

Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for its invaluable contributions to democracy.

He made this known in Abuja on Monday when an INEC delegation led by the commission’s Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, paid him a courtesy visit at the Air Force Headquarters.

He said the country’s thriving democracy results from solid institutions such as the electoral body, which, through its work, has allowed citizens the right to choose who should govern them through free and fair elections. He says it has made Nigeria a shining example for other nations.

“The invaluable contributions of the INEC distinguish democracy as a form of governance unparalleled in its commitment to the people. Furthermore, it lends credence to the slogan that democracy is the best form of government known to man.”

While commending the Chairman’s efforts, he said, “Another laudable milestone achieved was the Electoral Act of 2022, which introduced reforms aimed at more timely organisation of pre-election processes and increasing transparency in results collation and reporting,” he said.

The Chief of Air Staff also reminded the commission to settle outstanding bills for some services it rendered to enable them to serve the commission better.

“I would like to seize this opportunity to remind the Chairman that some outstanding bills have yet to be cleared by INEC. The settlement of those bills will enable us to serve you better,” Abubakar said.

On his part, the INEC Chairman congratulated him on his appointment as the 22nd Chief of Air Staff and other promoted officers serving in and outside the headquarters.

He appreciated the NAF for providing security and logistics support for the timely delivery of election materials during general, off-cycle, and supplementary elections.

“I want to acknowledge the neutrality and professionalism of the NAF in particular and the armed forces in general in discharging your responsibilities. There have been no unhappy incidents or compromise by your officers and airmen.”
